Irvine Building

Exposure Works to the Irvine Building.

The School of Geography and Sustainable Development is housed within the Irvine Building in the historical heart of the University. Following a competitive tender bid, we were appointed to carry out internal stripping out of ceiling, wall and floor finishes to expose the underlying structure to allow a structural engineer to undertake a review and assist in developing a repair scheme to stabilise movement issues within the structure of the building.  The works included the Strip out of ceiling finishes, wall linings, etc to expose the structure; Careful removal of floor coverings and set aside for re-use; Uplift of floorboards/ sheathing etc to expose structure; Cut out areas of cracked resin floor to expose floor structure; Upon completion, reinstatement of all finishes to match existing, including decoration.

As the structural issues presented themselves to the Engineers, we worked closely with them to adapt the original scope of works to what actually required to be done. Extensive scaffold shoring was required to combat point loading and movement of the façade and a series of engineered design restraint straps were fitted to the internal walls.

Our client was delighted with our project management and the completed works.

I worked with Cosmos on the internal and external refurbishment of a Grade ‘B’ listed townhouse in Glasgow city centre. The work included extensive internal improvements to services and finishes to provide speculative office space for let. We collaborated with Cosmos following a competitive tender process and value engineered the project scope and specification in line with our client’s budget requirements.
